Your own TIGER Geocoder Server in 5 min
We have put together a complete installed server that includes TIGER Database plus the Geocoder and also a REST JSON API node.js app that wraps all that functionality to offer you a simple boxed solution to start geocoding as if you were hitting Google Maps API. This is available as AMI (Amazon Machine Image) and you can fire up an EC2 (Amazon's Server Cloud) using this image and simply be up and going with your Geocoding API.
Zero maintenance, runs in Amazon AWS
If you tried installing TIGER Geocoder in a Postgres database and put PostGIS extensions and load the 120 GB shapefiles from US Census bureau, you feel the pain and know how many time the process failed. We have solved all that and packaged it "Server in a box" ready to run when you start it. Moreso, you don't have a JSON REST interface with high performace caching. That's what we added extra to give you a turnkey, ready to run, out of the box solution.
Geodata enhanced with Census FIPS codes
Geocoding responses include their original Census FIPS codes/keys. These are crucial to cross reference other US Census datasets such as demographics, economics on any give geo unit such as Tract, City, County, State etc.
Fallback on Google API
In rare situations when a specific address cannot be resolved (mostly due to address formatting), TIGER Geocoder transparently falls back on Google API for resolution. You can offload your paid Geocoding plan with google and use your Google API key and 3rd party paid quota only when needed
Access TIGER/Line Data Postgres instance
In addition to geocoding, if you need to connect and run queries against the full TIGER/Line data tables, then you can do so. The dedicated instance gives you access on Postgres port 5432 and you can run any Geospatial queries against the data.
Neighborhood names included
For over 1000 large cities, we have also included Neighborhood names in geocoding results (courtesy of Zillow's opensource project).
